The Kyiv Christianity Program and the Igor Skochylas Center for Religious Culture at UCU, in cooperation with the Max Weber Foundation Research Center in Ukraine, invite you to an interdisciplinary academic conference entitled “War and the Church in Early Modern Ukraine: Institutions, Visions, People.”

War and the Church as a religious institution striving for harmony and peace would seem to be incompatible phenomena. In reality, war, as the greatest challenge to civilisation and a promoter of change, has had a significant impact on religion and religious institutions, which is clearly visible both in Ukrainian and European history. The idea for the conference belongs to Oleksii Sokyrko and consists of tracking and analysing the widest possible range of relations that existed between Christianity and war in the ecclesial space of early modern Ukraine.

The interdisciplinary scientific conference “War and the Church in Early Modern Ukraine: Institutions, Visions, People” will take place on November 28 at the Sens bookstore in Kyiv (34 Khreshchatyk Street), from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Conference participants: Vadym Adadurov, Ivan Almes, Yuriy Voloshyn, Tetiana Grygorieva, Larysa Dovha, Myron Kapral, Iryna Klymenko, Volodymyr Masliychuk, Oleksiy Sokyrko, Maksym Yaremko, Vasyl Ulyanovsky.
